Hi my name is Star Grieser and I am the director of testing here at CASLI, the Center for the Assessment of Sign Language Interpretation. This is just a short and sweet update with what’s been happening so far and what we can expect.

Two weeks ago, I made a vlog discussing the impact of COVID-19 on our operations and on testing development. Sure enough, we are seeing the impact that we anticipated.

Operations have slowed way down. Most of our test sites have closed temporarily due ot COVID-19. Very few are still operating, but we expect those will close, soon, too. As of this filming, 33 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico have issued Stay-At-Home orders so venturing out for non-essential activities is prohibited. We expect to see all of our test sites to close. A company we work with to administer our NIC-Knowledge exam, ScanTron, is reporting the same thing – most of their test sites are closing until further notice. If you have an appointment to take your test in the near future, go ahead and cancel it based on that expectation. There will be no cancelation fees charged to anyone during this COVID-19 pandemic.

We received some email asking us for refund. We’re more than happy to issue a refund along with a $15 processing fee. If you cancel and don’t request a refund, those test fees will apply to your exam when we resume operations again.

As for those who are awaiting their exam results. We are not seeing an impact on wait times for results. In fact, the turnaround for exam results are shorter due to lower volumes in the rating queues.

In test development, I am so incredibly grateful to our test development committee. We met almost every day last week to review and work on our CASLI Generalist Knowledge Exam and CASLI Generalist Deaf Interpreter Performance Exam to get those ready for the phase in testing development.

We are still working hard for all of you. If you ever have any questions or concerns, please contact us
