Rescheduling/Cancellation/No Show
Knowledge Exam
After applying and paying for the Knowledge Exam, you will receive a registration email from ScanTron within 10 business days. This email will contain a unique username and password, as well as a link to their registration website and directions for scheduling your exam appointment through their scheduling system. After registering for your exam on ScanTron’s registration website, you will receive a registration confirmation email from ScanTron within 10 business days. The information provided in the email from ScanTron is valid for 90 days; if you have not scheduled your exam within 90 days of receiving the email please contact CASLI and request a new registration email.
Test site Closure for COVID-19, Emergencies, and Inclement Weather Conditions for the Knowledge Exam
Please visit ScanTron’s webpage on testing site closures and/or delays for updates.
If it is more than four business days from your scheduled exam date you can reschedule or cancel your exam. If you are eligible to cancel/reschedule your exam, you will need to go to the scheduling website listed on the registration confirmation email from ScanTron and log in with the username and password they provided. There is a $50 rescheduling fee that must be paid online at the time of the request.
If it is less than four business days from your scheduled exam date you cannot reschedule or cancel your exam. If you do not reschedule at least four business days prior to your exam appointment and/or you do not show up for the exam, it will be considered a missed appointment and you forfeit your exam and all related exam fees. You would then be required to register and pay for the exam again in order to sit for it in the future. Please note that the only exception to this rescheduling policy is a documented, excusable emergency situation. See the ScanTron registration confirmation email or visit the ScanTron Website for details on ScanTron’s rescheduling policy.
If you miss your scheduled exam appointment due to an excusable emergency situation, you must contact both ScanTron and CASLI within three business days following the documented emergency (or the first available opportunity if the nature of the emergency prevents you from contacting us) to be considered for an approved, free, rescheduled exam.
Excusable emergency situations include:
- The death of an immediate family member
- Accident, illness, or hospitalization of you or an immediate family member (verified by a doctor)
- A natural disaster
Documentation of the emergency must be submitted to CASLI and ScanTron. If both CASLI and ScanTron verify that the emergency qualifies, your application and exam fees may be applied to another exam appointment. After approval of a free rescheduled exam, ScanTron will contact you directly to schedule your exam appointment.
If the candidate cancels the scheduled exam appointment after the deadline or misses the scheduled exam appointment for any reason other than an excusable emergency situation that is approved by CASLI, it will be considered a missed appointment, which forfeits the exam and all related fees. The candidate would then be required to register and pay for the exam again in order to sit for it in the future.
If you have paid for but have not yet scheduled an appointment for the NIC Knowledge Exam and decide you no longer wish to take the exam, CASLI will either refund your payment or credit the exam fee to your account, minus the $15 non-refundable application processing fee, within two years of the paid date. After two years, the exam fee cannot be refunded but can be credited to your account (minus the $15 non-refundable application processing fee). Please submit your request in writing to CASLI. Refunds will be processed in the same manner the original payment was made (e.g.. if you originally paid by check then you will be refunded by check).
Performance Exam
NOTE: This section is only applicable to the Performance exam (and/or GAP Test) scheduled within CASLI’s network of Local Testing Administrators (LTA) sites. Policies for Knowledge exam (above) adhere to Scantron’s existing policy.
Please note that rescheduling refers to a process that occurs once you have scheduled a testing date and subsequently wish to change or amend the date, time or location of your scheduled exam. You may reschedule a testing appointment up to three (3) days in advance of your testing appointment without any imposed fee.
Any rescheduled requests within three (3) days of your scheduled testing appointment will have a $50 non-refundable fee applied to the candidate’s CASLI Exam System account. Candidates MUST contact CASLI to pay the fee and the rescheduling fee MUST be paid prior to being able to reschedule their exam.
LTAs who receive a request from the candidate to reschedule or cancel their scheduled exam appointment in less than three business days from their exam appointment may still invoice CASLI for the time slot they reserved for that exam provided that they do not schedule another candidate during that same exam appointment (e.g. no double-dipping). It is the LTA’s responsibility to inform CASLI of the last minute cancellation immediately in order to be able to invoice CASLI for the last-minute cancellation.
For example, if an LTA sets up an appointment for Mary Smith on Friday at 3:00pm and Mary cancels on Thursday, the LTA may still invoice CASLI if no other candidate takes Mary’s appointment after she cancels. If, however, another candidate – Joe – wants to take the appointment slot even at the last minute, the LTA would invoice CASLI ONLY for Joe’s exam administration.
The only exceptions to the rescheduling policy are documented emergency situations as outlined below:
- The death of an immediate family member
- A doctor’s note verifying accident or illness that causes hospitalization
- Documentation verifying emergency situations (e.g. accident report, police report, etc.)
- A natural disaster
Upon verification by CASLI, the exam fees will carry over to the next test date. Notification of emergency must be made to the CASLI at (571) 257-4761 or testing@casli.org on the business days following the documented emergency unless the nature of the emergency precludes you from contacting us. If so, you need to contact the CASLI at the first available opportunity.
If a candidate does not appear for their scheduled examination time and does not reschedule/cancel prior to their scheduled exam, the candidate will be considered a no show and forfeit their exam and exam fees.
Candidates who missed their appointments due an excusable emergency situation should notify the test site administer immediately and then must contact CASLI at testing@casli.org or (571) 527-1463 with notification within 3 business days following the documented emergency (or the first available opportunity if the nature of the emergency prevents them from contacting CASLI) to be considered for a cost-free rescheduled exam appointment. Excusable emergency situations include:
- The death of an immediate family member
- Accident, illness, or hospitalization of self or an immediate family member (verified by a doctor)
- A natural disaster
Documentation of the emergency must be submitted by the candidate to the CASLI by email to testing@casli.org. If CASLI verifies that the emergency qualifies, the candidate may reschedule an exam appointment, cost-free, within one year of the approval.
