Hi, my name is Star Grieser and I am the director of testing here at CASLI, the Center for the Assessment of Sign Language Interpretation. This is just a short and sweet update with what’s been happening so far and what we can expect.
COVID-19 has severely impacted our operations and test administration. Most test sites closed and most remain closed. But in recent days we’ve seen some states, and with that, some test sites are opening up.
If you were planning to take your NIC Knowledge exam, and have already registered and paid for it, you would have received communications from ScanTron, the company we contract with the administer that exam for us. Our contract with ScanTron is being extended so you can contact them directly to work out your NIC-Knowledge exam appointment if there are any operational test sites near you.
If you were planning to take your NIC Interview and Performance Exam, you can log into our CASLI Exam System and click on the “Find a Proctor” feature to see if there are any operational test sites near you. Those indicated with a green pin are open and operational and accepting exam appointments. Those with a purple pin are still closed due to COVID and those with a red or yellow pin are future test sites.
If you were planning to take your CDI-Knowledge exam, you can contact an LTA from the list on our website to see if they are administering any exams. If you need help with this, please feel free to reach out to us for help.
We’re still working on exam development. The CASLI Generalist Knowledge exam and Performance Exam for Deaf Interpreters have been built in CASLI Exam System and are now under review [by the testing committee and psychometrician]. We had planned to film the performance exam for hearing interpreters back in March, but postponed due to COVID-19. We are tentatively planning to film this September but it entirely depends on if it’s safe to travel and work face-to-face in a group setting. We’ll decide based on best practices at that time.
We hope you are staying safe and doing well through these really challenging times. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to us any time.
